SDG 3: Good health and well-being
In 2015, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global agenda for sustainable development until 2030. SDG 3 focuses on ensuring good health and well-being for all, regardless of age. The United Nations emphasizes that health is essential for sustainable development.
Indoor air pollution is one of the top five health risks in developing countries. Nearly four million people worldwide die each year from exposure to cooking smoke – more than from malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis combined. FairClimateFund’s projects, which focus on efficient cooking solutions, not only reduce CO₂ emissions but also contribute to a significant reduction in indoor air pollution. This leads to a healthier living environment for millions of families and supports companies in achieving their sustainability goals.
The role of clean cooking solutions
More than 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to clean cooking technologies. This leads to 4 million premature deaths and countless health problems each year, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and eye irritation. Women and children are disproportionately affected, as they are typically responsible for cooking and collecting firewood.
FairClimateFund is committed to combating this health crisis. By providing households with efficient cooking solutions, such as biogas installations and pellet stoves, we realize direct benefits:
- Health Improvement: Clean cooking solutions reduce harmful smoke, which immediately leads to better health.
- Cost savings: Lower fuel costs create financial space for basic needs such as food, healthcare and education.
- Time saved: Freed-up time, often of women, can be spent on economic activities such as farming or trading, thus contributing to family income and well-being.
