netherlands energy compact

News – 05 October 2021

The United Nations has offered the Netherlands the unique opportunity to take a leading position in accelerating SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy for all. The NL Energy Company has a result been established!

The NL energy is a cooperation among more than 25 organisations, knowledge institutions and NGO’s. The aim is to provide everyone with affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy. The organisations propose to provide renewable energy to 100 million people and cleaner cooking solution to 45 million people by 2030.

And that is urgently needed. At this moment, 800 million people worldwide do not have access to electricity and 2,6 million people still cook on polluting cookers. This results in 4 million deaths from indoor pollutants.

At FairClimateFund we believe in a fair world in which everyone has access to energy and clean cooking facilities. That is why FairClimateFund joins the NL Energy Compact!

How does FairClimateFund contribute to the NL Energy Compact?

  • FairClimateFund aims to use climate finance to provide access to clean cooking for 900,000 people from low-income households in fragile communities and countries.

  • Together with partners from the private sector, we invest in climate projects that reduce 2.000.000 tonnes of CO2 in low-income communities and improve the living conditions of these communities (SDG 3, 5, 7).

  • We will fight for a fair and inclusive voluntary carbon market in which households that generate the CO2 reductions receive a fair share of the revenues from CO2 credits in a transparent way.
