Meet Dinah

Dinah Nkosi is a big fan of Basa Magogo’s new heating method. “If you walk through the village here you see how badly the air is polluted. Especially in winter you can literally only see a few meters in front of you. If everyone here would light their oven according to the Basa Magogo method, the air would not be so dirty and the visibility would not be so bad. Since I started cooking according to the new method, I have noticed a clear difference in my own environment,” says Dinah. Fortunately, every year in Kwazamokuhle, thousands of households are shown how the Basa Magogo method works.

Dinah cooks every day according to the Basa Magogo method. “The success lies in the simplicity of the method. People do not have to make material investments. All that is asked of them is a change in behavior. It takes discipline not to fall back into old habits and to always light the oven in the Basa Magogo way. But the reward is great. I was used to buying five bags of coal every month, now I only have to carry two bags. It is clear that with the Basa Magogo I save a lot on coal! Because of the savings on coal, I save thirty Rand (about three euros) every month. The first month that I had some money left, I immediately bought a lunch box for my son. We never had money to buy our son lunch; Thanks to Basa Magogo I can now give him lunch every day. That also benefits his learning performance,” says Dinah, laughing.
