The 26th Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place in Glasgow from 1 to 12 November 2021.

During the climate summit, 197 countries will meet to make agreements on reducing greenhouse gases to prevent serious consequences of climate change and to provide aid to developing countries that are already struggling with the consequences.

FairClimateFund will campaign for a ‘Fair Race to Net-Zero’, together with partners Fairtrade International and WOCAN. That is why we will organize a side event during COP26: A Fair Race to Net-Zero; scaling fair, inclusive and gender-focused voluntary carbon markets. We aim to ensure that a transition to a net-zero economy is fair, inclusive and gender-sensitive and that people in the most vulnerable regions are not overlooked.

The aim of this session is to draw attention to the issues surrounding additionality of CO2 reduction projects, carbon financing for adaptation in developing countries, carbon markets as a mechanism to reduce emissions and the alignment of the SDGs in voluntary carbon markets.
