Secrid is a producer of wallets. In 2009 Secrid launched the Cardprotector with the vision to make people look differently at the contents of their pockets. Now, more than ten years later, Secrid wallets are a must-have and are available in more than 70 countries worldwide. Secrid's products are designed with a long service life in mind. In addition, the products are produced efficiently and with the help of sheltered workshops.
Because the production of leather has the greatest impact on the environment and nature, Secrid to alternatives. We also know since then that leather is a material to be able to continue their product as long as possible. That is what sustainability is all about in the first instance. That is why the company now mainly focuses on improving leather production and reducing waste in order to reduce the impact on the environment and nature. Aluminium also has a large share in the environmental impact of the production process. Design Secrid activities to start actively thinking about upcycling. As a result, there are no more rejected aluminium profiles in the waste. By looking for ways to operate waste production, they are moving toward a Zero Waste Supply Chain. This approach limits CO2 emissions throughout the life cycle of Secrid's products.
Secrid's other CO₂ emissions are calculated by EcoChain. With the outcome that the costs for full compensation of its CO₂ production, including the production and distribution chain, are equal to just under 0.2% of the turnover. This looks like part of the production cost, just as they are willing to pay extra for clean leather from the Netherlands, where environmental standards are stronger than in cheaper Asia.
Secrid aims to reduce CO₂ emissions to such an extent that they must compensate a maximum of 25% in 2030 compared to the baseline in 2019. The compensation is done in collaboration with the FairClimateFund. Together we invest in forestry in Peru. A great project where the effects go further than capturing CO₂. This forestry has the side effect that the erosion on the mountain slopes stops, and the local climate is created positively. This benefits the local coffee farmers and the local economy as a whole.
Secrid does this retroactively, starting in 2009. Secrid hopes that as much as possible can start working in order to work together for a better world. Over the years, the company has decided: that we not only want to be CO2-neutral but also CO2-positive. So, more than we emit.
